Since https://review.opendev.org/#/c/682600/, the following lines result
in /var/yum/cache being present in one of the layers of the base image:
RUN {{ macros.install_packages(base_centos_yum_repo_packages |
customizable("centos_yum_repo_packages"), chain=True,
clean=False) }} \
{% for repo in base_centos_yum_repos_to_disable |
customizable('centos_yum_repos_to_disable') -%}
&& yum-config-manager --disable {{ repo }} \
{% endfor -%}
{% for key in base_centos_yum_repo_keys |
customizable('centos_yum_repo_keys') -%}
&& rpm --import {{ key }} \
{% endfor -%}
&& /bin/true
{% block base_centos_repo_overrides_post_yum %}{% endblock %}
RUN {{ macros.rpm_security_update(clean_package_cache) }}
This is because it is not cleaned in the first RUN statement. This adds
76MB to the image. Also, using two separate RUNs which results in an
extra 23MB due to updates to /var/lib/rpm/Packages.
Found via https://github.com/wagoodman/dive.

Without this, a failure in mariabackup would be ignored due to the pipe

OVN has been split out from openvswitch and it's code is here [1].
With the split we have changed the ovn runtime/data dirs to
/etc/ovn and /usr/share/ovn respectively.
If a user uses latest OVN (when used after the split from
openvswitch), then the extend_start.sh of ovn-nb-db-server and
ovn-sb-db-server will fail because the OVN schema files will be in different
location (new location is /usr/share/ovn/ovn-nb.ovschema and /usr/share/ovn/ovn-sb.ovschema)
The old location is - /usr/share/openvswitch/ovn-nb.ovschema and
/usr/share/openvswitch/ovn-sb.ovschema
This patch checks for the presence of the schema files in the old location before
accessing them.
For latest OVN, it is advisable to use the "ovn-ctl" script to start
and stop OVN ovsdb-servers. ovn-citl script takes care of creating the dbs
and updating the dbs if the schema is updated.

After switching from innobackupex to mariabackup [1] for database
backups, the kolla_mariadb_backup.sh script was not modified to account
for the difference in arguments between innobackupex and mariabackup.
There is a compatibility mode, the documentation [2] for which covers
some of the differences.
The following have been changed:
- Add explicit --backup argument, now required
- Remove './' positional argument - not required with --stream
- Remove --no-timestamp argument - only supported in innobackupex
compatibility mode
- Remove --incremental argument - implied by --incremental-history-name
- Remove deprecated --compress argument, which requires qpress to be
installed (it is not). The stream is now passed through gzip instead

We used APT preferences to limit Ubuntu to Ceph 'mimic' (13.x) but those
packages are no longer present so we got Ceph 'nautilus' (14.x) in our
images.
So let's drop not used settings.

Versions were generated via the following command:
tools/version-check.py --openstack-release train --include-independent
Some other versions had to be changed manually, including those not
managed via the OpenStack release process:
almanach, gnocchi, networking-ansible, vmware-nsx, vmware-nsxlib,
networking-l2gw, nova-mksproxy, novajoin, rally
VMTP 2.5.0 is the latest release, but does not support python 3.
Sticking to master.
Revert this on master once kolla stable/train branch has been created.

Attempts affect pre failures. This means we can increase stability of
jobs by rejecting nodes that fail pre without failing runs at the same
time (unless we are really unlucky and hit b0rken nodes 5 times in a
row).
This change is adapted from I17b7f878c742fa8db66f738526855a02ab9f1905 in
kolla-ansible.

We broke 'apt_sources_list' and 'apt_preferences' options quite a while
ago. Turned out that fix is quite simple.
This change adds empty sources.list and apt-preferences files which are
always added into images. If kolla-build.conf will use any of APT
related options then those files will be replaced with provided ones.

If there was some error during pushing then Kolla was greeting with "all went
fine" message anyway:
INFO:kolla.common.utils.aodh-api:Trying to push the image
ERROR:kolla.common.utils.aodh-api:Get http://10.101.16.1:5000/v2/: dial tcp 10.101.16.1:5000: connect: no route to host
INFO:kolla.common.utils.aodh-api:Pushed successfully
This patch changes that. Now if there is an error during push then proper
exception is raised to PushTask and image is marked with PUSH_ERROR status.
This way at the end of build it is easy to spot which images did not got
pushed to registry:

Sphinx 1.8 introduced [1] the '--keep-going' argument which, as its name
suggests, keeps the build running when it encounters non-fatal errors.
This is exceptionally useful in avoiding a continuous edit-build loop
when undertaking large doc reworks where multiple errors may be
introduced.
